4 Serene Danville Area Spots to Celebrate National Garden Meditation Day
May 3rd is National Garden Meditation Day, but you can enjoy these 5 green spaces in Danville, IL and the surrounding area all summer long. Drop in, unplug, and take a breath at one of these well-maintained local gardens:
Kennekuk Cove County Park Herb Garden
Head through the park to the Bunker Hill Historic Area where the Vermilion County Master Gardeners maintain both the geometric garden full of fragrant herbs and edible plants for a moment of reflection in the quiet clearing. Take a walk among the historic building replicas, or take one of the many hiking trails to see native flora and fauna.
2. The Gardens at the Danville Public Library
Last summer, the VCMGs installed a new Native Garden along the Vermillion and Seminary sides of the library, in addition to the Children’s Wonder Garden and Herb Garden. This space is a great quick stop on a walk downtown to connect with nature in the heart of Danville.
3. The Lindley Sign Post Forest
Also located in the Downtown Area, the Lindley Sign Post Forest on the corner of Vermilion and Harrison Street is a manicured spot in a sunny lot next to the Joe Cannon Walldog mural. Discover the hometowns of visitors to the city on the sign posts and get a few minutes of meditation practice in.
4. Douglas Discovery Garden
One of Danville’s hidden gems, Douglas Discovery Garden in Douglas Park off of Bowman Avenue is one of the lesser-known gardens in Danville. This pristine garden features small fruit trees, raised beds filled with edible fruits, vegetables, herbs, and ornamentals cared for by the Master Gardening program and other volunteers throughout the year. Grab a spot on the bench and notice your thoughts for a few minutes on a sunny day this summer!
